Head of Risk Measurement, London
Overview of the Role
To manage a team of four analysts. To monitor, maintain and analyse the Risk data generated by the current Risk Software applications for use by Fund Managers in the Hedge Fund, Equity and Fixed Income Areas. To provide and present Risk Information to the Business and external clients, interpreting and explaining the output to Fund Managers, dealing with queries and ad-hoc analysis requests. Ensure that risk team operates at professional, legal and regulatory standards
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible for a number of tasks including:
- Managing, setting and monitoring objectives for the team and individuals
- Determining development path of systems and databases in order to meet business demands
- Knowledge of new instruments and assessment of their potential impact ( Process, regulations, etc)
- Readily absorb new technical information and comply with professional, legal and regulatory standards and act on the consequences of new developments
- Ensure risk measurement operates in line with UCITSIII regulations - in particular the restrictions of instrument coverage within the Riskmetrics system and any IT requirement
- Represent the team on LAEC ,Board and external meetings, UCITS and Pricing committees and any other regulatory/compliance meeting
- Production and analysis of regular risk reports for the Listed Assets Business of Henderson. This will involve direct liaison with the Fund Managers.
- Developing the level of Risk information provided to the business. This may include investigating the data requirements for new instrument types, sourcing this data and testing the risk output.
- Respond to direct requests from Fund Managers and other areas within HGI for risk analysis
- Assist with the monitoring the output of the risk systems & thoroughly investigating the reasons for any limit breaches.
Technical Skills & Qualifications Required
- Educated to degree level, ideally in a finance related discipline
- Should possess strong quantitative skills
- Knowledge of derivatives is required
- VBA and SQL experience, IMC and / or CFA an advantage
- Support will be given towards gaining the CFA qualification
- Candidate should have good Excel skills & previous experience of Investment Risk and systems. They should also have knowledge of equity and fixed income derivatives and hedge funds
Competencies Required
- Candidate should come from a Finance background with 3-5 years experience in an Investment Management type company preferable
- They need to be bright & diligent as well being able to follow processes through logically
- The individual will need to be a self starter who has the ability to work individually, as well as part of a team
