Job Description
Top tier US investment bank seeks experienced Quantitative analyst to join a Valuations team which provides financial control, accounting, reporting and analysis for banks capital markets / institutional businesses. The group ensures the financial integrity of these businesses, providing P&L and balance sheet reporting and analysis, inventory position analysis, and advises business management on matters such as funding efficiencies, accounting and regulatory implications and cost-control or revenue enhancement opportunities. The team also performs other internal control responsibilities including independent inventory price verification and accounting analysis of financial and operational risk with regard to new business opportunities.
Within the group, the Product Valuation Group (PVG) acts as a consulting arm -- providing specialized expertise and ensuring an appropriate exchange of information across businesses. Of critical importance, PVG ensures that valuations of traded contracts are accurate and accurately reported. Likewise, the team oversees the specification of new processes and assists with the analysis of results
The Vice President will be responsible for ensuring the consistency and appropriateness of complex transaction models and setting policies and standards on product valuations for the Derivatives businesses trading in the Americas.
The Vice President will also be expected to have a well-rounded view of the market. S/he should be able to elevate the reputation of the group and exert influence at a strategic level with other groups within the team, including the trading desk, corporate risk management and business finance.
Key responsibilities include the month end price verification process, ensuring that the most appropriate valuation models are used under the current market conditions, and specification of valuation adjustment and reserve methodologies.
Main Functions and Responsibilities
· To set policies and standards on valuation methodology. This includes reviewing performance, maintaining documentation and ensuring consistency between groups.
· Involved as both the consulting and oversight group for Mark to Market (MTM) testing. To set policies and standards in all MTM testing.
· To perform a thorough review and then maintain reserving methodology policies and standards. This includes high level, product specific and individual trade level policies, ensuring consistency between groups.
· To coordinate with the Accounting Policy Group in interpreting and quantifying the impact of certain accounting standards on the businesses. To ensure that these standards are implemented and adhered to in the valuation and reserving methodologies.
· To enhance the current p/l explain process. To introduce standards across all business areas and ensuring all market risks are correctly detailed on a daily basis.
