United Nations likely to need many more accountants
Experts are predicting that many more accountants will be needed during the next few years following the decision to radically overhaul the accounting systems of all United Nations organisations and to adopt international public sector accounting standards (IPSAS) by 2010. These new rules will apply not only to the UN itself but also to its international agencies such as the World Health Organisation. Some UN agencies, such as the International Maritime Organisation, are based in the UK. It is expected that because of the highly complex and specialist nature of the work high salaries will need to be paid to attract enough qualified people.
