The European Equity COO Group supports the EMEA Head of UBS Investment Bank's equity business in the delivery of the EMEA Equity strategy. The COO Group's core objectives are to support the definition of the EMEA equity strategy, implement projects and initiatives that deliver the agreed strategy. The COO Group also measures delivery against the agreed strategy and monitors and mitigates legal and operational risks that can impact the delivery of the strategy. The group works closely with Senior Management globally, Equity business functional Managing Boards, their Operating Committees and Country Heads. The COO group monitors, as "buyer", the delivery of service by the Equity business support areas.
In this particular role the individual will support the head of the European COO Group who is a key point of contact for the head of EMEA Equity. The individual will be expected to work on a variety of front office business related projects leveraging existing resources often under tight deadlines and operational risk of the Equity business, managing the flow of new business initiatives and ensuring proper governance within the Equity business. Key skills include financial analysis, drawing conclusions from analysis; developing action plans clearly allocating actions, responsibilities and timelines.
Reports to: COO European Equities/Head of EMEA Equities
Client:
- The role is a key point of contact for the EMEA Head of Equities.
- Work closely with functional managers, country heads and desk heads to implement EMEA Equity initiatives.
- Analyses performance of the business and its various segments and conduct relevant risk reviews.
- Monitor the implementation of the EMEA strategy, highlight key risk issues.
- Present conclusions clearly and concisely to EMEA Head of Equities.
- Act as escalation point for legal, compliance, Finance and Operations into the business.
- Interface with clients, regulators, vendors and market infrastructure providers and the business in respect to specific projects.
People:
- Build relationships with a wide cross section of the Equity business to partner their needs and ensure proactive problem solving.
- Partner with team members and other COO teams in London and globally.
- Liaise with logistics and business to monitor projects and often work as part of a virtual team to ensure implementation of key projects.
- Work with the Equities support areas to maximise the value UBS Equities can derive from support areas.
- Represent European Equities at various Regional Committees and ensure proper Governance structure for the European business.
- Act as focal point for location COO's issues when dealing with Equities.
Economic:
- Analyses and identify key business opportunities, define relevant business case and develop implementation plans.
- Deliver on key projects/initiatives which typically focus on enhancing revenues and the efficient allocation of Equity resource.
- Lead ad hoc projects to deliver cost savings, revenue protection or loss mitigation.
Functional/Technical:
- Understand what is important for the MEA Head of Equities and, using both technical & business knowledge, deliver against this.
- Strong analytical skills for data manipulation, analysis and capability to develop resulting action plan and manage subsequent project to deliver action plan.
- Careful attention to detail, literacy with accounting processes and understanding of book keeping rigour.
- Responsible, with Compliance, for the impact of regulatory change on the Equity business and developing relevant response.
- Take ownership for tasks and projects; logical and thorough approach with complete execution of objectives throughout the project lifecycle.

Minimum Job Requirements:
- Motivated self-start.
- Enthusiasm for the business and thirst for more knowledge.
- Excellent time management, presentational and organisational skills.
- A proven track record in interfacing with a wide cross section of people and an understanding of project management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and confidence in presenting ideas and analysis to senior management.
- Sound knowledge of the structure and infrastructure of a major Equities business.
- Good knowledge of regulatory issues surrounding the Equity business.
- Good knowledge of Operational & Accounting processes relevant to an Equity business.
- Experience of operational risk issues.
- Confident dealing with clients, regulators and other external vendors.
- Rigorous work pattern, demonstrating high levels of diligence and attention to detail.
- Technical skills in Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
- Qualified Accountant with solid experience in an Investment Banking or Asset Management environment essential.
- Degree level educated.
