Job Description
The Usability Manager will be responsible for ensuring that digital products provide a best-in-class usability experience. As Usability Manager, you will have a long and impressive track record of building usable solutions for the K-12 market. You will use focus groups, surveys, and usability testing to continuously improve ease of use and user experience. Results derived will lead to design recommendations and best in class digital educational programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
o Setup and manage the Usability function for DPRD
o Manage the usability schedule and service to ensure that prototypes and programs in development are adequately tested for usability, ease of use, and user experience
o Identify and implement best practice policies and procedures in relation to usability
o Maintain highly specialized standards based on user-centered principles that are easy to understand, and take into account both corporate goals and user expectations
o Partner with best in class Usability companies that can perform outsource usability service
o Create and drive an awareness among all DPRD functional teams of the importance and relevance of usability in creating best in class programs of digital instruction through deep insight into our users
o Promote best in class usability standards and practices to functional teams in DPRD
o Make practical recommendations that significantly improve the user experience and ergonomic issues within the programs
o Always champion the voice of the user (teachers, administrators, parents and students in your role as Usability Manager, gather data from real users to refine the designs
o Provide cost-effective, proven testing techniques throughout the design process.
o Design and implement accessibility guidelines and best practice
o Create the usability strategy for DPRD which is continuously refined and improved through metrics and validation as market and user needs apply
o Champion a user-centred design philosophy throughout DPRD group through process based on proven methodologies and usability best practices
Skills and Experience:
Essential
o 5 + years experience in usability for the software industry, preferably for enterprise software development.
o BA/BS in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction or related field
o Extensive and demonstrable experience with usability studies, prototyping, and deployment
o Experience working with designers, software developers, QA staff, technical writers, and external consultants and clients.
o A thorough understanding of a variety of software development processes, and how to improve usability in small steps as development progresses.
