Job Description
The Opportunity
The Digital Content Engineering Manager will build, manage and mentor a growing team of developers responsible for the delivery of a diverse set of content products. The Digital Content Engineering Manager will ensure that technology and product standards are defined and delivered, meeting business and client expectations. The Digital Content Engineering Manager will interact with Project Management, QA, IT and Product Management teams to establish development objectives and timelines, managing resources to support product deliverables. The Digital Content Engineering Manager will be responsible for determining the vision and execution thereof for a variety of interactive content products with a broad range of applications. The Digital Content Engineering Manager will report directly to the Director of Engineering.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Technical team leadership in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Manage content development team on site as well as securing contract and outsource resources to assist in team augmentation when needed.
• Assists in developing solutions to software related problems.
• Assists in developing standards and procedures to ensure high quality deliverables and consistent workflow across projects and other engineering functional areas.
• Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Actively review projects, manage resources to on time delivery, track schedules and maintain budgets.
• Manage day-to-day content development team tasks and escalate issues to Director of Engineering as needed.
• Works with the Director of Engineering to ensure that content product development decisions support corporate strategies and future direction of all content product deliverables for both legacy and new development.
• Build effective working teams, coordinate with other departments
• Supports Project Management by ensuring development estimates are accurate, technical designs are sound, development resources with the correct skills are assigned to projects, holds his/her team accountable to follow the established design and development standards and that the team delivers quality product on time.
• Partners with QA management to develop practices and standards that ensure quality solutions are delivered to the customer
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills (articulate and present business and technical information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
Skills and Experience:
• M.Sc. in Computer Science or B.Sc.in Mulitmedia and equivalent experience
• 6+ years in application and/or web development
• 5+ years interactive content development and design experience
• 3+ years managing medium to large engineering teams
• Leadership ability with technical staff
• Proven history of releasing quality products distributed on the web
• Experience managing budgets, capital, resources, etc.
• Interactive educational software experience a plus
• Strong vision and be able to clearly articulate the direction the group will take in terms of methodologies and tools and a clear commitment to staying abreast of trends and movements in web development and interactive design
Computer Skills:
• Strong product development and engineering ability
• Proven experience using software development methodologies
• Experience with multiple operating systems including Windows and Mac OS
• Experience managing development projects of all sizes and complexities, including large, interactive content programs
• Experience using standard software development tools and practices.
• Expert knowledge and development experience in Flash, ActionScript, JavaScript, XML, XSLT, XHTML, specifically in developing interactive learning products
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Solid leadership skills
• Experienced with assigning development resources to projects; establish staffing objectives and delegate assignments to developers; prepare budgets and staffing plans/requirements
• A professional positive reinforcement coaching style preferred
