Job Description
Fund Accountant
Purpose of Role:
A fund accountant is required to provide technical expertise and support to deliver fund reporting in the Investment Accounting function.
Responsibilities:
- To understand and articulate the IA project programme that requires input, or impacts, A&R facilitating appropriate input and communication to the project and the team.
- In conjunction with the manager, lead the specification of new systems and process development in the area and ensure implementation of agreed initiatives
- Ensure compliance to agreed accounting policies and practices, continuously improving and implementing operational and control procedures.
- Ensure all processes and controls follow the agreed procedures and have a full understanding of the implications of all actions taken by the team and all related end to end processes.
- Provide guidance and assistance to colleagues on complex financial problems and system issues, taking responsibility for relevant entity outputs and all related postings.
- Coach and develop colleagues by sharing specialist knowledge and skills with them to improve performance
- Ensure robust business continuity plans to provide continuity of service
- Sign off & complete tasks within strict deadlines ensuring full control and accuracy of data. This includes delivering quality reporting outputs to all customers.
- Maintain and assist in the development of the control framework ensuring the timely mitigation of risk and the provision of accurate data.
- Deputise for the departmental manager, maintaining good relationships with relevant managers within Corporate Reporting.
- Take a pro-active role in ensuring full compliance with T&C, performance management and operational risk
- To compile reports to management regarding KPIs data and compliance with appropriate commentary and recommendations to changes in policy
- Analyse & provide commentary monthly on fund accounts for internal & external parties.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Ability to understand and challenge statutory and regulatory requirements and to adapt them in to BAU processes and procedures.
- Good understanding of investment accounting and financial reporting principles and methodologies.
- Good understanding of the fund structures, products and all investment accounting systems and procedures including unit pricing.
- Ability to solve complex problems, assign priorities and lead others to overcome disruptions or failures in systems and service.
- Ability to analyse and present financial data. Explaining variances and resolving queries.
- A good understanding of control frameworks and risk management.
- Understanding of tax as it applies to investments.
- Good knowledge of the statutory and regulatory environment as it applies to linked and non linked business.
- Good understanding of investment markets and securities.
- Good communication and organisation skills
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of HiPort Investment System and General Ledger, Oracle and Equity E.
- An associate of Securities Institute / IAQ.
- Qualified ACCA, ACA or QBE.
- Advanced Microsoft office.
- Understanding of FSA, ABI & NSO requirements.
