The Trust Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust provides acute hospital based services to a population of approximately 350,000 people living in and around the towns of Chelmsford, Maldon and Witham. The Trust is also home to the regional plastic surgery service which covers a population of approximately 3.2 million people and the regional burns services which targets a population of approximately 9.8 million, and has an annual turnover of £190m, employing just over 3,000 staff across all of the hospital sites. The finance function is expanding and has seven excellent jobs to offer high calibre AAT qualified or part-qualified accountants. Applications from both NHS and non-NHS professionals are welcomed.
The Roles To support the Assistant Director of Finance in the delivery of a portfolio ranging from capital planning to the development of a Foundation Trust financial strategy. To develop systems to enable the Trust to effectively manage Turnaround and capital investment programmes. To critically analyse trends, variances and associated risks to enable key financial decisions to be made. To lead on benchmarking, business case review and corporate wide finance projects. To carry post implementation project reviews in a wide range of areas. To maintain the Foundation Trust financial systems and lead in the development of those systems. To undertake project work in the development of the Trust financial systems to enable best practice financial management. Specific roles are:
- Deputy Finance Manager (Costing)
- Management Accountant
- Commissioning Accountant
- Assistant Finance Manager (4 Posts)
Each role will require the successful applicant to manage a team (varying in size) of Finance Staff and be a member of the Trust senior finance team and fully participate in identifying, developing, implementing and monitoring strategic finance policies and guidance.Overview of responsibilities – not all in each role The maintenance and development of systems and processes to enable the trust to effectively manage its FT development decisions.
- To lead on aspects of financial planning and strategy development
- To undertake financial modelling in respect of PFI projects
- To lead on benchmarking and other efficiency measures work streams
- To lead financial projects and appraise business cases for the trust ensuring they represent value for money and fit with the trusts objectives
- To provide cover for the team finance Manager
- To maintain financial strategy processes and systems in a manner adequate for the new financial and Foundation Trust regimes
- To undertake financial management based project work in support of the wider Finance Department
- To undertake and lead aspects of financial planning / budgeting and modelling as assigned
- To participate in and lead aspects of financial benchmarking or associated work
- To undertake and lead on aspects of Asset management and verification of assets
- Undertaking assigned tasks in respect of business case or trust wide project work
- Carrying out assigned tasks of financial projects and appraisals
- Responsible for the reporting of the Trust’s income and activity using their specialist knowledge and experience
- Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to meet the Trust’s requirement to report its income and activity
- Provide support to Trust staff with regard to activity and income issues; and contribute to the organisation-wide development of a good understanding of clinical activity to support the clinical efficiency programme
- Responsible for the Trust’s income reporting ensuring that activity and income reports are produced on a timely basis each month in line with the internal business management cycle.
