European Sourcer for Distressed Credit

UBS IB is indisputably the top debt capital house in the world, bringing innovation to corporate, institutional and sovereign clients across global financial markets. The Distressed Loan business is part of the Credit division of FICC, and this role is based in London, working closely with the traders and sales people to originate and source distressed / stressed credit.

As a member of the Distressed Loan team in London, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing the business relationships with banks, workout groups and institutional accounts across the EMEA region. Accounts covered include distressed debt hedge funds and financial sponsors looking for ideas and product and banks/workout group looking to reduce exposure. You will acquire information and work with the desk analysts to develop trading ideas to present to customers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Complimenting the par/new issue sales force by covering institutional accounts on stressed/distressed credits
  • Identifying and sourcing distressed trading opportunities
  • Providing the desk with accurate information flows and market intelligence
  • Successfully turning leads/ideas into revenue producing trades
  • Developing new clients through own leads and through current relationships in the Bank Loan group
  • Understanding client needs, styles and specific requirements, trading behaviour, and key relationship issues
  • Managing relationships and delivering value throughout client organizations
  • Coordinating ongoing account reviews to understand client needs, identify issues, and probe for additional opportunities

As the successful candidate it is essential that you:

  • can demonstrate a deep understanding of the leveraged loan product
  • have strong experience in financial industry, either on the secondary markets or primary debt finance side of an investment bank
  • are FSA Registered
  • have a basic understanding of bankruptcy process and jurisdictional differences
  • can show the ability to work effectively in team environment as well as on an individual, unsupervised basis

In addition ideally you will be:

  • fluent in either French or German or have a strong understanding of the French or German market
  • able to show good organizational skills, ensuring that all people involved in the client process are well versed on client needs
  • able to turn leads into business
  • comfortable setting goals and being measured against them
  • aware of factors that influence the client decision making process on leveraged loans or distressed product
  • credit trained at a commercial bank or investment bank with solid credit skills
  • have a background in credit to enable you to source products effectively
  • It would be an advantage (not essential) if you have had exposure to distressed trading or high yield trading and are an experienced sales person with strong influencing and negotiation skills
