Job Description
My client`s business is the exploration, production, refining, trading and distribution of energy. They are an established world trader.
Vacancy: Commodities Product Controller
Product Controllers are primarily accountable for management reporting, controls and financial analysis of trading books which may include crude oil, gasoline, distillates, fuel oil or chemicals. This role is specifically targeted for the Distillate Book. This is an operational control role in one of the highest-performing businesses. The role works very closely with traders and is responsible for the timely and accurate daily monitoring of trading physical and paper book activities, and in particular the daily market exposure, profit and loss and market risk.
The business covers London entrepreneurial oil trading, optimisation of European refineries and marketing assets, supply chain tax optimisation for oil and gas, and global shipping optimisation and freight trading.
You will be responsible for calculating and reporting daily exposure and profit and loss for the use of management and trading teams. Communicating the factors driving daily p&l and exposure to management & trading teams. Facilitating inventory reconciliation for bench by ensuring systems consistency and explanation. Monitoring and ensuring compliance with control policies, standards and authority limits, reconciling on a timely and accurate basis, the performance as reported in the "middle office" trading system with the monthly accounting results. This includes creating journals for all differences that then will be posted to accounts.
Assisting as needed to ensure invoicing, financial settlement and cash forecasting activities are properly controlled ,Joint Venture reporting and controls, as needed surrounding shared trading books, assisting in the resolution of group balancing, financial closing issues, and indirect tax reporting, Compliance and control and special projects may also be required as needed during the course of the year. Some minimal travel may be required.
Key skills and competencies required:-
1. Evidence of superior mathematical ability
2. Working knowledge of trading and derivatives
3. Robust interpersonal communication skills
4. Ability to work within a team to meet deadlines
5. Knowledge of control processes applicable in a trading / regulated environment
Education: Degree Level
Certifications: Part qualified Chartered Accountant or equivalent would be a distinct advantage
