Job Description

Being a leading retail bank, many of the IT projects undertaken by my client in the UK qualify for enhanced corporate tax deductions for research and development. The claims made for 2003 to 2005 identified eligible spend of over £12m and I would be confident that 2006 and 2007 would yield eligible spend in the same or greater magnitude. Due to resource constraints, we have not be able to free up a permanent member of the UK corporate tax team to take responsibility for R&D on a more permanent basis. As a result, my client is looking for a temporary tax resource to direct and implement a project to identify, document and calculate Research & Development for 2006 and 2007, as well as working to develop timely intervention process with the project managers to aid in R&D identification going forward. It is anticipated that the claims will be predominantly in the area of software development activities. In order to progress the 2006 and 2007 claims there is significant and detailed work which needs to be done, including identification of potentially eligible projects (significantly narrowing the scope of any advisor review), precise quantification with the IT, HR & Finance teams of eligible project time and related spend, detailed justification and evidence gathering re eligibility and in tandem with the UK tax compliance team, producing detailed tax computations to claim the relief. Whilst we do anticipate that we will need to use professional advisors regarding some of the trickier eligibility issues, we are looking for an individual with the necessary experience and judgment to minimise that spend by doing as much identification of eligible expenditure in-house as possible. Requirements: ? At least 2 years of relevant RDTC experience, preferably in completing UK claims and focusing on the identification of eligible spend rather than computational aspects; ? Excellent communication skills and ability to work with technical specialists ? Very strong team spirit and ability to work with several project teams simultaneously in a busy environment
