Senior Accountant (Public Sector), Central London, £57.5K
Position: Senior Accountant
Location: Central London
Salary: £57,585

COMPANY:
Our client is one of the UK's leading transport companies. They are now looking to add a Senior Accountant to their finance team. The role will focus on providing a customer focused management accounting service which meets business needs and ensures that management accounting is used to inform and challenge management actions and decisions.
ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Advise and support clients on financial management issues for the sound and proper management of organisation resources.
b) Liaising closely with cost centre managers and business units to provide a comprehensive accounting support service.
c) To coordinate and maintain arrangements for the accurate assessment of accruals and financial forecasts.
d) To coordinate completion of timely and robust forecasts and commentaries.
e) To coordinate preparation of periodic accruals and provide a robust analysis of key variances.
f) Leading operational managers and Accountants in the formulation of financially sound and accurate business plans and budget formulation.
g) Assist in the closing of the Annual Accounts, supporting the business units where necessary.
h) To provide an assessment on the capital spend for the year and the impact for the following year's program on a rolling basis.
i) Ensuring appropriate budget delegation arrangements and procedures are operating efficiently.
j) Ensure that business cases prepared by operational managers are fit-for-purpose.
k) Assist in development and implementation of new and existing financial systems.
l) Ensure compliance with all necessary financial procedures.
m) Evaluate the effectiveness of the management accounting service provided to customers and make recommendations for improvement. Implement any plans to improve customer service levels as directed.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
a) Minimum three years post qualification experience (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
b) Sound experience of budgeting, accounting, forecasting and resource allocation in a devolved organisation, preferably within the public sector.
c) Proven ability to manage, train, coach, develop and motivate staff.
d) Project monitoring.
e) Reporting and financial management in accordance with varied compliance obligations.
f) Financial and contractual matters in a public sector environment desirable.
g) Excellent spreadsheet and word skills (Microsoft Office).
h) Very good to excellent ability to interpret and report financial information.
i) Very good to excellent ability to learn and use new financial and accounts systems.
j) A good understanding of working within a quality system or best value require.
k) A good understanding of the public sector environment.
