Job Description
Department: Investment Accounting
Location: Aylesbury-although travel to our other sites will be required.
Purpose of Role:
To provide a comprehensive tax service to the Group's investment business covering both life and pensions businesses and authorised investment funds. The work will predominantly involve managing and reviewing tax compliance but will include advisory work and change projects. The role is based in Aylesbury but will also require some work to be performed occasionally in other sites.
Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for reviewing tax computations and tax data from various sources to ensure accuracy, planning and controlling the submission of tax computations and CTSA payments to the Inland Revenue for various investment funds.
- Manage the involvement of key information providers (primarily the Accounts departments) for the computations to ensure that requirements are understood and met in full and on a timely basis.
- Propose and develop ideas to minimise tax and to improve tax efficiency.
- Manage junior members of the department, providing leadership, training and supervision.
- Constantly monitor changes in tax legislation and interpretation to identify potential impact on the above areas of accountability, and take action to ensure that the group complies with and obtains the maximum advantage from such changes. Keep abreast of changes/technical developments in the business and the wider tax environment as they appertain to specific areas of responsibility.
- To actively manage projects to improve, automate and streamline information flowing to tax computations
- Take responsibility for developing systems and procedures for recording and analysis of tax information.
- Provide effective cover and support for other tax professionals to ensure the business needs of the Group are met. This will include ad hoc tax planning/advisory work and occasional cover on other taxes.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Qualified accountant/tax advisor with a substantial amount of corporate tax experience. Experience in a major financial group is an advantage but by no means essential.
- Comprehensive understanding of UK corporation tax coupled with commercial awareness and knowledge of the workings of the Inland Revenue.
- Good PC skills and in depth knowledge of GL, investment and accounting systems.
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills and powers of persuasion and negotiation and management skills. The ability to communicate effectively with all levels and ability to build relationships with other departments.
- Creativity, problem solving, lateral thinking and strong analytical and interpretative skills.
- Ability to work without supervision and to lead, direct and motivate junior staff.
